Family-run Baton Rouge spice shop with a demo kitchen for Cajun, seasonal and themed classes
Red Stick Spice Co. is a family-owned spice, oil and tea shop on Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. Classes happen in the store's demo kitchen at 660 Jefferson Hwy. Owner Anne Milneck spent years as a caterer in Baton Rouge before opening the shop. She teaches classes like Cajun Creole Cooking and Taco Tuesday herself. Instructor Lili Courtney leads the King Cake Baking Class and Galentine's, and Paromita Saha teaches the Indian Dinner Party.
The calendar is wide and changes with the seasons. You'll find Thanksgiving Sides, Feast of the Seven Fishes, Sweater Weather Soups and Knife Skills. Some classes are partnerships. Cook the Book is run with Red Stick Reads around a chosen novel, and another class pairs food and wine with Martin Wine & Spirits. Forest to Table pairs foraging with cooking.
The format mixes hands-on classes with demos. Most public classes cost $110 to $135, and Spice Fundamentals is $60. The kitchen also takes private groups, holiday parties and corporate team building.
