Culinary college · San Antonio
CIA's San Antonio campus at the Pearl, with boot camps and day classes for home cooks
The Culinary Institute of America's Texas campus is a small commuter college in the Pearl District, set in the restored 19th-century buildings of the former Pearl Brewery on the San Antonio River Walk. Most of the people here are working toward associate degrees. The campus also runs Food and Wine Enthusiasts courses for the public: multi-day Boot Camps, single-day classes and beverage classes.
The campus leans into Latin American food. Its 30,000-square-foot main building has teaching kitchens, a professional bakeshop and a Latin Cuisines Kitchen with Talavera tile walls, a wood-fired oven, a demonstration theater and six cooking suites, with both indoor and outdoor stations.
Expect a college setting more than a party venue. This is a good pick if you want to learn from a culinary school and like the idea of a multi-day boot camp. You can stay for a meal too, since the campus has student-run restaurants serving global and local flavors. Google reviewers rate the campus 4.4 from 96 reviews.
