Hands-on Henrico classes in groups of four, from knife skills to cocktails
The Kitchen Classroom is a cooking class studio at 9018 West Broad St. in Henrico, just outside Richmond. Warren Haskell runs it. He spent 20+ years as a line cook, kitchen manager, catering chef and recipe developer. His teaching team includes Chef Dave Booth, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, and Beth Dixon, a longtime Richmond bartender who leads the cocktail classes.
Classes are hands-on and capped at 16 students, who cook in groups of up to four. Most classes start with a review of basic knife skills. Menus include date nights like surf and turf or flavors of Morocco, plus fresh pasta, focaccia, and Cajun and Creole dishes. Cocktail classes come with small plates paired to each drink. Everyone gets a full serving of each dish and goes home with the recipes.
Classes run 2 to 2.5 hours and average $85 to $100 per person with taxes and fees. Guests 21 and over can buy wine and beer. The space also hosts private and team events, with hands-on classes for up to 25 people.
