Monthly one-hour class at Burlington's food co-op, with ingredients to take home
City Market, Onion River Co-op has been Burlington's community-owned grocery since 1973. Once a month, its in-house chefs teach a hands-on cooking class at the South End Community Kitchen. Classes run for one hour, from 5 to 6 PM, and take up to 10 people. You go home with the recipe and a bag of ingredients so you can make the meal again in your own kitchen.
The teachers are the co-op's own managers. Michael Clauss trained at the Culinary Institute of America and cooked at Tribeca Grill and Restaurant Daniel in New York. He also spent four years as a Chef Instructor at the New England Culinary Institute. Adam Herschel came to cooking as a second career. He studied agronomy to learn how soil health connects to nutrient-dense food.
The November class, Turkey Tamales, shows you how to use up holiday leftovers. Members pay $50 and non-members pay $60. You register through Eventbrite. The co-op also runs nature walks and a Paint Along night, but those aren't cooking classes.
