Former teacher who brings forgiving, beginner sourdough classes to your own kitchen
Kam Fletcher, the Haphazard Sourdough Baker, is a former teacher who has baked sourdough for over 12 years and taught more than 800 people, ages 6 to 93. Kam doesn't sell bread. The point is teaching it, with a relaxed style built on the idea that you don't need perfection to make good bread. The focus is on understanding why each step matters, not just following a recipe.
Most classes happen in your home, anywhere from South Denver to Greater Colorado Springs, including Castle Rock, Monument and Fountain. The two beginner classes, Basic Sourdough Cinnamon Twist and Basic Sourdough Whole Wheat Loaf, run 1¾ hours. You leave with an active starter, care instructions and the recipe. Advanced classes cover bagels, soft pretzels, pizza, chocolate chip scones, a baked cheese ring, and sourdough pita with two kinds of hummus.
If you want to book a single seat, watch for pop-up classes at Aspen Kitchen on N Nevada Ave and Goat Patch Brewery on N Cascade Ave. They cost $60 per adult, and most cap at six. Kids' sourdough parties are a favorite too. Google reviewers rate it 5 from 43 reviews.

Not for the basic classes. Most students are beginners. The advanced classes require experience with starter because starter care isn't covered there.
Most are held in your home, from South Denver to Greater Colorado Springs. Pop-up classes with individual seats run at Aspen Kitchen and Goat Patch Brewery in Colorado Springs.
