Private Japanese cooking lessons with chef Mamie Nishide, on the Upper East Side or at home
Japanese Cooking Studio is chef Mamie Nishide's private teaching business, founded in 2000. Mamie grew up in Japan, trained at the Institute of Culinary Education and cooked at Le Bernardin and Nobu. She also teaches at ICE and was a finalist on Food Network's Sweet Genius. There are no open public classes. You book a private session at her Upper East Side studio on East 76th Street, at her location in Laurel on the North Fork, or in your own kitchen for a travel fee.
The menus are real Japanese home cooking. The ramen class covers handmade noodles, pork broth, chashu and marinated eggs. The sushi class runs from spicy tuna rolls to nigiri, pressed sushi and rose-shaped sushi. She also teaches tempura, tofu and noodle classes, and she will build a custom menu if you ask. Classes are hands-on, ingredients are included, and you can add a sake tasting.
It suits couples, birthday and bachelorette groups, and corporate parties. Google reviewers give it 5 stars from 6 reviews.
