Kitchen Barn

Kitchen Barn is a specialty kitchen store on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach. Owner Joel Feldman has run it since 1975. Besides cookware, it offers knife sharpening, a wedding registry and cooking classes taught by local chefs. It holds a 4.3 Google rating from 162 reviews.

Baking leads the current schedule. Tylor Alexander, owner and head baker of Pilgrim Bread, teaches weekend afternoon workshops that use regionally grown, stone-milled flour. Upcoming classes cover Sourdough Pizza, Sourdough Bread, Pie Making, a soft sandwich bread called The Kids' Loaf, and Cookies and Scones with Holiday Boxes. Classes start at 2:00 pm and run two to two and a half hours.

Other teachers rotate through. Chef Nita Jain trained at Le Cordon Bleu and cooks in a plant-forward style. She leads Autumn Harvest Kitchen. Andrea DiCarlo is a modern Italian chef who teaches fundamentals and how to balance flavor. Matt Starcher is a Johnson and Wales graduate and has taught here for eight years. His classes range from hands-on sushi and pasta workshops to multi-course farm-to-table demos.
