Mirepoix is the hands-on cooking school run by Holiday Market, the Royal Oak grocery at 1203 South Main St. The market founded it in 2008, and class ingredients are shopped right in the store. You cook in a professional kitchen and do the prep yourself rather than watching a demo. Guests must be 18 or older unless a class says otherwise.
The calendar is built on themed evening classes of about two and a half to three hours, most priced at $89. Expect a Thai night with Pad Thai and summer rolls, Chinese take out favorites like General Tso's chicken, Greek chicken gyros, butternut squash ravioli and a Bavarian menu with soft pretzels and chicken schnitzel. Date nights such as Meet Me in Little Italy cost $99. On Saturday mornings Chef Olivia teaches the Baking & Pastry Series: focaccia and French bread, donuts and French macarons.
Mirepoix also hosts private classes for 10 to 45 people, plus a team building event called The Duel. It holds a 4.9 Google rating from 298 reviews.
