Billie's Grocery is a health-focused cafe and gluten-free bakery in Midtown Kansas City, with a second location in Leawood, Kansas. Owner Robin Krause is a Nutritional Therapist Practitioner and Certified Herbalist, and she started the place as a tribute to her father. The Cooking School runs out of the cafe, and some classes take place at the Leawood shop.
Most of the schedule is gluten-free baking. Recent classes include Gluten-Free Sourdough Baguettes and Holiday Cinnamon Raisin Bread with Joe Creedon, Pop-Tart Making with Taylor Wiese, Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls and Sticky Buns with Miranda Easley, and pie shells and crepes taught by Krause herself. Autumn in Italy with Ryan Bowersox is an evening dinner class. Many baking sessions start early in the morning.
Classes are hands-on. Afterward you sit down with classmates and eat family-style, and dinner classes include wine. Each class description says if it is plant-based or gluten-free, and recipes are emailed to the ticket buyer after class. The cafe has a 4.6 Google rating from more than 1,000 reviews.
