Monthly Italian home-cooking nights taught by members at a San Jose cultural center
The Italian American Heritage Foundation is a nonprofit cultural center on North Fourth Street in San Jose, founded in 1976. The building has a social hall and a complete kitchen, and the cooking classes are held there. Classes run one evening a month from April through November, with July off, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The teachers are IAHF members and people from the community who love to cook. They are not professional chefs. Past classes show the style: Lucia Clementi's arancini and cannoli, Marie Dalldorf's gnocchi and Ligurian-style ravioli, Felix Dalldorf's focaccia and Joe Lucito's cuccidati. Each class is part demo and part hands-on, with a cap of 20 people. You go home with the recipes and any food that didn't get eaten. The next class is Italian Holiday Cookies & Treats on Thursday, November 12.
Classes cost $25 to $35, and members pay the lower price. There are no refunds, but you can transfer your seat to someone else. The foundation has a 4.3 Google rating from 67 reviews.
