Career culinary and pastry certificates in 4 or 6 months at Ballston Quarter
Metropolitan Culinary Arts Institute (MCAI) is a career school, not a spot for a one-night class. It runs SCHEV-certified certificate programs in Accelerated Culinary Arts and Breads & Pastry Arts, built to get students into kitchen jobs in 4 or 6 months. The culinary track takes 480 hours. It covers brigade operations, cooking fundamentals, classical French and international cuisine, ServSafe food safety, culinary math and business skills. The pastry course runs 14 or 21 weeks.
Classes are small and hands-on, and the school says graduates are ready for junior sous chef roles. Chef Brian Rowe teaches culinary arts, and Chefs Donnie Murphy and Jason Gehring lead breads and pastry. MCAI is ACF-approved and accepts GI Bill benefits for eligible veterans. It holds a 5-star Google rating from 3 reviews.
MCAI shares a 6,000 square foot facility at Ballston Quarter in Arlington with Cookology, the recreational school also founded by owner Maria Kopsidas. If you want a recreational class or a six-week bootcamp instead of a career certificate, look at Cookology.
