Miami Dade College's culinary school, teaching career chefs in a LEED-certified downtown building
Miami Culinary Institute is the culinary school of Miami Dade College. It sits on the Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami, and you can get there by Metromover, Metrorail, bus, bike or car. This is a career school, not a place for a one-night recreational class. Students work toward an Associate in Science in Culinary Arts Management, or toward college credit certificates in Culinary Arts Management Operations or Chef Apprentice.
The teaching centers on what the school calls Food Culture Innovation, a seed-to-soil approach. Students learn to trace food back to the farm, ranch or fishery it came from. They also study how distribution, cooking methods and waste disposal affect the environment. Classes take place in a LEED-certified facility, and the training mixes classic skills with newer techniques.
The building also has a Food and Wine Demonstration Theater. Groups can book it for seminars, team-building events, fundraisers and parties. The school has a 4.5 rating on Google from 39 reviews. It's the right fit if you want a culinary career in South Florida.
