Private Neapolitan cooking classes in Portland with Chef Renato, booked by appointment
Date night
Evening classes made for two
Napoli That's Amore belongs to Chef Renato. He grew up in Naples and now runs a private chef and catering company in Portland, where he also teaches Italian cooking classes on request. He learned at his mother Anita's stove. He says the family recipes go back to a great-great-grandfather who was royal chef to the last King of Naples. He has also made gnocchi on KATU's Afternoon Live with Harry Connick Jr.
There's no public class calendar. You contact Renato to set up a class, and he builds the menu around you. Classes run any day of the week, at lunch (11am to 2pm) or dinner (5pm to 9pm). Dishes he mentions include pici with sausage and porcini, handmade profiteroles, fresh potato gnocchi, Neapolitan ragù cooked for ten hours and traditional carbonara.
He pitches the classes as a one-night Italian vacation for visitors and for couples marking an occasion. Prices depend on group size and menu, so ask for a quote. Google reviewers give it 5 stars across 16 reviews.
