Philly Cheese School teaches cheese, not cooking. Classes cover how to serve, pair and enjoy cheese, and they take place in a classroom at 701 S 9th St in South Philadelphia or online over Zoom. Founder Julia Fox-Birnbaum has worked in the cheese industry since 2014. She was head buyer and manager for one of the largest cheese counters on the East Coast, and she has trained under experienced cheesemongers.
Public evenings run on a seasonal calendar. Recent dates include Trick or Cheese, a Halloween candy and cheese pairing, a wine and cheese class with Pray Tell Wines, and Cheese Basics. Classes are BYOB and open to adults 21 and over. The school holds a 4.8 Google rating from 90 reviews.
Private classes suit birthdays, team building and family gatherings. In-person Cheese Basics runs 1 hour 30 minutes at $90 per guest. You can also rent the classroom as an event venue.
