Albuquerque nonprofit teaching a 12-week course on launching a food truck or food business
The Street Food Institute is an Albuquerque nonprofit that trains people to start and run small food businesses. It does not run one-night cooking classes. The community program lasts 12 weeks, costs $250 and covers concept development, menu design, licensing, marketing, financing and accounting. It was developed with Central New Mexico Community College, but you do not need to be a CNM student to join.
Course 1 is a lecture series on the business side. Course 2 is a lab where students test recipes and cost out menus they design themselves. Everyone also passes the online ServSafe Food Handler course. Afterward, students can intern in the institute's café, catering kitchen and food trucks.
Program Coordinator and chef Julian Griego learned New Mexican cooking from his grandparents. He trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas and has taught at CNM. The institute holds a 4.4 Google rating from 28 reviews. It suits would-be food truck owners, current vendors and career changers.

The community class is $250 for a 12-week course.
No. The institute has a community arm, and you do not need to be enrolled at CNM to take that class.
It is offered in Spring, Summer and Fall as long as each cohort has enough students. Start dates change from term to term.
Only a desire to learn and a commitment to attend. You must be 18 to take part in the internship.
Yes. Course 2 is a lab built around recipe testing and costing student-designed menus, and the optional internship gives hands-on work in the café, catering and food trucks.
