The Mix is the recreational cooking program at Columbus State Community College. Classes run in Mitchell Hall, the college's home for hospitality and culinary arts. All the instructors are certified by the American Culinary Federation, and most also teach in the college's culinary programs. You might cook with Chef James Taylor, who chairs the hospitality department, or with Certified Executive Chef Barry Young. Diane Souza, a Certified Executive Pastry Chef, leads the baking side.
Classes come in two styles. Hands-on classes last about two hours and cap at 16 students, who cook the recipes in small groups. Demonstrations also run two hours and seat up to 24. You go home with printed recipes and get tasting portions of what was made. No experience is needed.
Adult classes are for ages 16 and up, and some classes are open to families. The Mix also hosts private parties, from birthdays and bridal showers to corporate team building, with a menu you pick. It holds a 5-star Google rating from 10 reviews.
