Hotel cooking school at Fort Baker, at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge
Cavallo Point Cooking School is part of Cavallo Point, the lodge in historic Fort Baker at the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge. The kitchen covers about 1,200 square feet and gets plenty of natural light. It has several workstations for hands-on classes, plus room for demonstrations and receptions. Menus are built around local organic ingredients.
Public classes run in the evening, usually Saturdays from 6 to 9 PM and Sundays from 5 to 8 PM. The menus range widely: Destination: Sicily, Spanish Table, Izakaya Favorites, Seoul Food Sunday and Argentine Steak House, plus French nights like Brasserie des Paris and Julia's Classics. Holiday Pies comes just before Thanksgiving. December brings a Wagyu Steakhouse and an Ultimate Cocktail Party.
Chef Tim Grable runs the school. He cooked at Stars with Jeremiah Tower, then spent 15 years at the California Culinary Academy/Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco and worked his way up to campus director. Groups can book private hands-on classes, demo classes, tasting stations or a tea party. These formats work well for company offsites.
