French-founded Houston culinary college with degree programs and Saturday chef clubs
Culinary Institute Lenotre is a culinary arts college at 7070 Allensby Street in north Houston. Third-generation French chefs Alain and Marie Lenotre founded it in 1998, and the Lenotre name ties it to French cuisine and pastry. Most students come for career training. It offers associate degrees in culinary arts, baking and pastry, and hospitality management, plus elite diplomas. An associate degree takes about 80 weeks, and a diploma can take as little as 60.
The school also runs shorter programs for non-degree cooks. These include a Saturday hands-on Cuisine or Pastry Chef Club, a Junior Chef program, hands-on sabbatical classes, and seminars in baking and pastry, healthy cuisine and advanced pastry décor. Pastry décor covers wedding cakes and French chocolate and sugar showpieces. Corporate team building is offered too.
This place suits people who want serious, technique-driven training in a professional school kitchen more than a casual night out. Niche has ranked it the best college for culinary arts in America three years running, and it holds a 4.4 Google rating from 135 reviews.
