Mesa BBQ school since 1998 running 6 hour smoker and grill classes in the cooler months
Phoenix BBQ and Grilling School has taught outdoor cooking in Mesa since 1998 and has appeared on PBS. Classes run at its facility on W Hoover during the cooler months, mostly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The main class is the 6 hour Smoking and Grilling class. Students cook on pellet smokers including a Traeger and a Grilla, plus a Big Green Egg and propane grills. They smoke pulled pork, brisket, pork tenderloin, chicken, buffalo wings, sweet potatoes and stuffed peppers.
Public classes take 14 to 30 people and need 14 sign-ups to run, so expect a big group. Singles are welcome. The school also lists evening steak and seafood classes.
If you want a class for your own group, the private Surf and Turf class covers T-bones, bacon-wrapped filets, stuffed Matambre, salmon four ways and Bananas Foster on the grill. It takes up to 12 people, at the school or in your home. A 4 hour at-home class shows you how to get the most out of a gas grill. The school has a 4.2 Google rating from 32 reviews.

The Smoking and Grilling class lasts 6 hours. It runs Fridays from about noon to 6 PM and Saturdays and Sundays from about 9 AM to 3 PM, during the cooler months.
