Andover community college culinary program with pastry kitchens and a student food truck
The Redler Institute of Culinary Arts is Butler Community College's career culinary program. It has its own building at 622 Cloud Avenue in Andover. This is a for-credit school, not a one-night class. Students enroll in an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts or one of three Professional Culinary Arts certificates, all taught in person.
The curriculum starts with fundamentals like heat transfer, knife skills and equipment operation. It then moves into global cuisines, pastry, butchering, menu planning and the business side: purchasing, inventory, budgeting and hospitality law. Training happens in separate pastry and savory kitchens with commercial equipment, plus an indoor and outdoor dining venue. Students also cater community events and work on the Grizzly Grub food truck, which serves the Wichita metro area.
Ethan Moulds is head culinary instructor and Les Padzensky directs the program. Certificate A takes one semester and aims at entry-level kitchen jobs. The full degree runs 60 to 61 credit hours. The program holds a 5 rating from 4 Google reviews, and you can book a tour of the building through the program office.
