Cook With Ben is Chef Ben Tehranian's own kitchen, in a townhouse in Columbia's Village of Long Reach. He has over 30 years of professional experience, and he teaches small private sessions for one to six people. There is no fixed calendar. You choose the date and time, any day of the week, between 11:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Each class runs about three hours and covers a full six-course menu: appetizer, soup, salad, entree, side dish and dessert. The sample menus lean classic and French, with duck a la orange over saffron risotto, Veal Oscar with Bearnaise, lobster bisque and Crepes Suzette, plus Maryland crab soup and crab cakes. Along the way he teaches knife skills, sauces and stocks, and how to time a meal so every course is ready together. He offers vegetarian menus too.
Students cook everything themselves. Then Ben plates each course and serves it as a sit-down dinner, or you can take it home. The school holds a 4.9 Google rating from 59 reviews, and much of the praise comes from couples, families and people who got a class as a gift.
