The Culinary Education Center is a nonprofit career training center, not a spot for a casual night of cooking. Food service employers and UNITE HERE Local 100 founded it together. It prepares people for jobs in kitchens, hotels and corporate dining across New York and New Jersey.
The main program is the free 8-week Line Cook Apprenticeship, and the first step is signing up for an information session. The Culinary Basics Training Course covers knife handling, plating, food temperatures, kitchen paperwork and safety standards. Students practice hands-on in a fully equipped professional kitchen and earn ServSafe Food Certification plus a CEC Completion Certificate. Dates for the 2026 upskilling courses haven't been announced yet.
Kitchen teaching is led by Lead Chef Instructor Eric Pellizzari and Chef Instructor Vanessa Ceballos. The center is at 275 7th Ave, 16th floor, in Manhattan. It also runs an ESL course there that teaches English for kitchen jobs. The center holds a 5 rating from 23 Google reviews. It's a good fit for anyone working toward a paid job in food service.
