Texas Culinary Institute sits at 2101 Texas Ave. in El Paso, between Piedras St. and Cotton. It runs an 8-month Professional Culinary Program alongside recreational classes for the public. Most adults come for Cook & Cork, a BYOB evening class that starts at 6pm and costs $98. In about three hours you cook a three-course menu, working in teams of two at fully equipped stations while a chef guides you.
Themes change most nights. Recent ones include Julia Child Night, Ramen Night, Wellington Night, Thai Cuisine, Rustic Italian and Fall in the Mexican Peninsula. Classes usually hold 12 to 14 guests. Chefs cover the basics at the start, so beginners do fine. Reviewers name Chef Hannae and Chef Luisa, and one couple books a class for date night every month. The school holds a 4.7 Google rating from 62 reviews.
Kids ages 7 to 17 get their own classes and holiday camps, such as a three-day Thanksgiving camp that runs from 9am to noon. The school says it welcomes Fort Bliss veterans, and an art gallery upstairs raises money for caregivers.
