Team building with a chef running the room
The Real Food Academy Tampa is the local branch of a kids-focused cooking school that Chef Maria Cummins founded in 2008. Her cooking draws on her Venezuelan roots, and her rule is "We don't change the dish, we change the ingredients." Kids cook familiar food with better oils, natural sweeteners and unprocessed ingredients. The Tampa team serves the wider area and has no single storefront.
Saturday kids' classes run from 11 to 1 at the Show + Tell Kitchen at Armature Works. Recent menus include homemade cheese tortellini with tomato soup, a poke bowl with honey soy roasted chicken and vegetable fried rice, and turkey empanadas for Thanksgiving. There are also homeschool sessions at Northdale Park & Recreation Center and holiday camps at St John's Episcopal School.
Birthday parties are the other big draw, and they can happen at your home. The school also runs field trips, after-school programs and team building. Parents wait outside the classroom and come in at the end to taste what their kids made. The Tampa location holds a 5.0 Google rating from 23 reviews.
