Monday Italian cooking classes with Chef Kim Leo at a Staten Island cultural foundation
Kids & families
Classes and camps for young cooks
Casa Belvedere is the Italian Cultural Foundation on Grymes Hill in Staten Island. It runs Italian language, art history, crochet, yoga and opera programs, and it also teaches cooking. Classes take place in Cucina Colavita, a custom teaching kitchen. They're led by Kim Leo, the chef and owner of Kim's Kitchen & Catering by Kim Cooks.
Classes run on Mondays and some Tuesdays. Kids cook from 4 to 5 pm and adults from 7 to 9 pm. Everyone cooks hands-on, tastes the recipe Chef Kim makes, then takes their own dish home. Recent adult menus include Corn Risotto with Seared Scallops, Butternut Squash Ravioli, Fig Cookies and Struffoli. Kids have made Cream Puffs, Turkey Cupcakes and holiday cookies.
Adult classes cost $80 to $130 and children's classes $60 to $80. Classes are small and often sell out, so the wait list is worth joining. Members of the Renaissance Circle get free or discounted entry to culinary classes. The foundation holds a 4.8 rating on Google from 254 reviews.
