The Cooking Lab is a culinary school in Port Washington run by two local parents. Mathieu Lanfant is a Paris-born chef trained at the Ecole Supérieure de Cuisine Française. Michelle Capobianco is a former corporate lawyer who trained in kitchens across Italy and leads tours in Abruzzo. Classes are hands-on. The kitchen has eight cooking stations, each for two people, so a full class tops out at 16.
The adult calendar leans toward Italian, French and Spanish food. Evening Dinner for Two classes cover Paella Valenciana, French bistro cooking, Puglia and Rome. Weekend classes include Homemade Pasta 101, Knife Skills, Crepes Brunch and Taste of Thailand. Parent/child sessions follow the holidays: apple tarte tatin, Hanukkah latkes and sufganiyot, and gingerbread.
Kids can take seven-week after-school series grouped by grade, or one-off classes like handmade pasta and cupcakes. Private events last two hours and take 8 to 16 guests. Virtual private classes run on Zoom. The school has a 5-star Google rating from 28 reviews.
