Westchester instructor who brings kids, adult and team cooking classes to your home
Kate Sonders Solomon is a cooking instructor based in the Rivertowns along the Hudson in Westchester. She comes to you. She teaches in your home or office, at a rental space she can suggest, or over Zoom. Her love of cooking began during a year in Florence, making risotto, pasta and tiramisu with a host mom. She has a soft spot for every kind of dough.
Kids are her specialty. Children from age 4 learn knife skills, measuring, recipe reading and kitchen safety, and recipes are generally vegetarian and nut-free. She runs private lessons, week-long camps and birthday parties, where homemade ravioli, pizza and hot pretzels are popular picks. She is also culinary program director at Berkshire Hills Culinary Camp, a residential sleepaway camp.
Adult classes are hands-on, open to all levels and capped at 12 students. Menus follow the seasons and can be made vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free. Corporate classes are built around each team. Kate sets up and cleans up every time, and she has a 5 rating from 53 Google reviews.

$125 to $150 per person with a $500 minimum. Classes run 2 to 3 hours, are limited to 12 students, and include fresh ingredients and all equipment.
Private kids classes and birthday parties are for ages 4 and up. Kids camps are for ages 5 and up, teens included.
A 2-hour class for $850 covering up to 12 children, plus $50 for each extra child. Kate brings ingredients, equipment and cupcakes, and handles prep and cleanup. You choose the menu.
No. Public classes and gift cards are non-refundable, though you can send someone in your place. Private classes can be rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice.
