University of Arizona teaching farm where kids grow, harvest and cook their own food
Tucson Village Farm is a working urban farm and healthy living center. It is a program of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona. It started in 2010, and most of its programs are for young people: field trips, camps, and homeschool days where kids visit the animals, harvest from the gardens and make a farm-fresh lunch.
The cooking side is led by Chef Becky Yim, who has a restaurant background and over ten years of teaching teens to cook. Staff member Jess Bell runs a Culinary Medicine camp for teens each year. Adults get occasional evening events, such as a Kombucha Workshop on the November calendar, alongside concerts and volunteer days.
This is a farm first and a cooking school second, so don't expect a steady schedule of adult classes. It suits families with kids and anyone who wants to cook close to where the food grows. Google reviewers rate it 4.6 from 38 reviews. The Midweek Market runs Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and sells seasonal produce and food from the farm kitchen.
