Tucson home-cook classes taught by a rotating roster of local restaurant chefs and bakers
Flying Aprons Tucson is a cooking school for home cooks, founded by Michele Schulze. It has no single house chef. A long roster of local restaurant chefs, pastry chefs, bakers and drink pros teach instead. They include Carlotta Flores of El Charro Café, Maria Mazon of BOCA Tacos y Tequila and Janos Wilder of Janos Cooks. Classes meet at Cook Tucson on N. Stone Ave and follow the seasons and what's happening around town.
Classes come in two styles. In a demonstration, you watch the chef cook and eat full portions of every dish. In a hands-on class, small groups cook all or part of the menu under the chef's direction. Classes take 10 to 16 students. Some also run on Zoom, with ingredient kits for hard-to-find items. December brings a Bûche de Noël class.
Junior Chefs (ages 7 to 12) and Teen Chefs (13 to 17) have their own classes. Private parties cover birthdays, showers and team building. They run about three hours, with appetizers, a class and a meal you eat together.
