A Pinch of Salt is the private cooking class business of Chef Raquel Rivera-Pablo. She trained at the Institute of Culinary Education and did her externship at Le Bernardin in 2008. She later taught cooking and nutrition in public schools in Harlem and the South Bronx. Her teaching focuses on healthy, clean cooking.
There are no open classes where you buy a single seat. You book a session for your own group, either in your home or in one of her professional kitchens in New York City or Westport, CT. Sessions run 2 to 3 hours and are built around a customized, seasonal 3-course menu. Sample dishes include Chicken Piccata with lemon and capers, Crispy Ricotta Ravioli with peaches and fennel, and Chocolate Lava Molten Cakes. For home classes she buys the ingredients at Whole Foods and bills them at cost. In her kitchen, setup and cleanup are included.
When you finish cooking, you sit down and eat the meal together. Classes are BYOB, you can add a mixologist, and offices can book an Iron Chef style competition. It holds a 5 rating from 46 Google reviews.
