Private-only Bowery cooking studio: book the room, pick from 16 menus, cook three courses
Battle of Tables is a cooking studio at 136 Bowery on the Lower East Side that runs private events only. Your group books the whole room, picks one of 16 adult menus or 3 kids' menus, and cooks three courses with a chef. Slots run daily at 11 AM, 3 PM and 7 PM. You get about 1.5 to 2 hours of cooking, then an hour to eat and celebrate.
Menus run from homemade pasta carbonara and tiramisu to coq au vin with macarons, paella, ramen with gyoza, chicken tinga tacos and a vegan Pad Thai. Head chef Franco Maschio cooked in European restaurants in Buenos Aires and has run New York kitchens. He also has a strong pastry background. Soft drinks, tea and coffee are included. You can bring your own alcohol with no corkage fee.
Pricing is flat. $1200 covers up to 8 guests, and each extra guest costs $149. That makes it a better fit for birthdays, bachelorette parties and office team building than for solo cooks. The studio has a 4.7 Google rating from 34 reviews.
