Lower East Side cooking school with small global classes and blindfolded Dinners in the Dark
Abigail's Kitchen is a small cooking school on Manhattan's Lower East Side, at 193 Henry St near the East Broadway F stop. Chef Abigail Hitchcock ran it on MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village for 25 years. She moved it in 2022 and opened Betty, an American restaurant in the same building. She trained at Peter Kump's New York Cooking School, is a certified sommelier and has judged on Beat Bobby Flay.
Classes have run since 2000, and the menus cover a lot of ground: tapas, Thai, Moroccan, Indian, Italian and sushi. Each class lasts three hours. You prep the ingredients, cook the whole meal together, then sit down and eat it. Most classes cap at 10 students, and the ticket includes unlimited beer and wine.
The space also hosts Dinners in the Dark twice a week. These are blindfolded meals, and Abby says they are the only ones in New York City. You can also book a private class for up to 24 people. The school holds a 4.4 Google rating from 235 reviews.
