Kitchen store with classes · Louisville
Family-owned Louisville kitchen store running demo and hands-on classes most days
Cooking at the Cottage is a family-owned kitchen store on Lexington Road in Louisville with a cooking classroom inside. Mark and Linda Kunz Bayens opened it in November 2010. It sells cookware, bakeware, gadgets, coffee and tea, and it runs classes most days of the week. It holds a 4.5 Google rating from 70 reviews.
You choose how involved you want to be. In demonstration classes the chef cooks while you follow along with a recipe packet. Hands-on classes put you at counter-height tables with gas cooktops. Date Night is hands-on and booked by the table for two, with ingredients prepped and most proteins seared ahead. For steadier progress, Basic Training and Intermediate Training are six-week series covering knife skills, stocks, sauces, proteins and fresh pasta.
The fall lineup leans toward baking and technique: French macarons, a four-hour sourdough workshop, croquembouche, springerle cookies, fresh pasta and pizza. Most classes include two glasses of wine, and you get a generous portion of every dish made.

It depends on the class. Demonstration classes have the chef cook while you follow a recipe packet and ask questions. Hands-on classes have you cooking at counter-height tables with gas cooktops. Partial hands-on classes mix the two.
Most classes include two glasses of wine in the seat price. State ABC regulations do not allow outside alcohol.
Date Night is booked by the table, and one table seats two people. The calendar lists it at $140 per table. It is hands-on, with ingredients prepped and most proteins seared in advance.
Refund or transfer requests must come seven full days before class. After that, you can send a substitute. If your seat sells from the waiting list, you get store credit for another class within 12 months.
Yes. The Cottage hosts wedding showers, team building, rehearsal dinners, celebrations and birthdays with custom menus. It does not host children's or teen parties.
