Napa cooking school taught by CIA veterans in a skylit 2,600-square-foot kitchen
PLAYTE Kitchen is a cooking school on Solano Avenue in Napa, run by chefs with long Culinary Institute of America backgrounds. Chef Sandy Sauter, the in-house "Pasta Queen," cooked at Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bistro and led CIA public programs. Chef Josh Anderson spent twenty years at the CIA. CEO Chef Matt Dailey is a CIA graduate with a soft spot for seafood and baking.
Public classes run about three hours. You cook in small groups in a skylit kitchen with induction cooktops, then sit down to a full meal of what you made. The calendar leans global: Thai curries with mango sticky rice, Chinese-American takeout favorites, Argentinian empanadas with three sauces, Spanish tapas, filled pasta, and fresh ricotta with gnocchi. The focus is food you can repeat at home with ingredients you can actually find.
The same space hosts private parties, corporate meetings paired with a cooking class, and virtual classes over Zoom. Special evenings include guest chef demonstrations and storytelling events.

Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, which are required for hands-on classes. You'll stand most of the time, so wear supportive footwear and bring something to tie back long hair.
Children under 12 can't attend standard public classes, but select family-friendly classes run during the year. Guests 15 and under must come with a participating adult who buys a ticket.
Give 14 days' notice for a full refund less a $10 fee. Within 7 days there are no refunds, but you can transfer to another class up to two times. Rebooking within 72 hours of class costs $20.
