Eight-person, hands-on BYOB classes in Asheville with a strong baking lineup
The Asheville Kitchen is a small recreational cooking studio with a full calendar of savory and sweet classes. Classes are capped at 8 people working across 4 cooktops. Unless a class is labeled Demonstration, you cook the whole menu yourself. Some classes have you working alone and others in pairs, so if you come by yourself you may be paired with another student.
Baking takes up much of the schedule: Sourdough Bread Baking for Beginners, Fougasse & Focaccia, Pâte à Choux, seasonal galettes and a three-part Holiday Cookie Box series. The savory classes cover a lot of ground, from Vietnamese Favorites and Chinese Take-Out Favorites to Pierogi Party, New Orleans Classics and a four-hour BBQ 101 where you smoke pulled pork or ribs. Several instructors share the teaching, including Emily Baron, J Chong and Terri West.
Most classes run 2 to 3 hours and cost $125 or $130. Bring wine or beer, plus containers for anything you take home. Many dates sell out. Groups of 6 to 10 can book the kitchen privately for $125 a person.
