About Tutore - Italian Cooking School
Tutore is an Italian-focused cooking school at 1629 W. Grand Avenue, run by Chicago chef Dean Zanella, who cooked at 312 Chicago, Grappa and Charlie Trotter's. The school describes itself as sophisticated but approachable, with a focus on Italian dishes rarely seen on most menus.
Fresh pasta and pizza make up most of the calendar. Pasta 101 covers dough, rolling, ravioli and tortellini, with cacio e pepe and a cherry tomato ragu. Pizza classes include a Happy Hour version. Regional menus go further afield: a Roman feast, a Venetian dinner party for couples, a Sicilian class and a three-hour Sunday gravy at Nonna's with braciole and cavatelli.
There are also technique classes such as Knife Skills 101, where cutlery and ingredients are provided, and an Italian Christmas Cookies class that sends you home with about ten dozen cookies per reservation.

Tutore - Italian Cooking School: common questions
Do I need experience?
No. Pasta 101 starts from making the dough at your own workstation, and Knife Skills 101 starts with knife grip and safe dicing.
Can I book a private event?
Yes. Tutore hosts private pasta classes for up to 30 people, built on Pasta 101, and any class can be customized. Off-site events are possible too. Email the school to inquire.
How old do I need to be?
All class participants must be at least 16.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancelling carries a $10 fee. If you cancel within 24 hours of the class, you forfeit the class fee.
