Kitchen Culture is a consignment kitchenware store on SE Foster Road in Portland. It sells used and new cookware, dishes and cookbooks, and it has a teaching kitchen in the shop. Traci Hildner, a Master Food Preserver who runs Lucky Larder, opened it in 2022 as a permanent home for her preservation classes. Today a rotating group of local teachers works there.
Pasta leads the calendar. Leta Merrill worked the pasta station at Union Square Café, and she teaches Egg Pasta & Autumn Sauces, Filled Pasta with Flair and a whole grain class using spelt, emmer and einkorn. Emily Squadra, a professional baker, covers sourdough and Seasonal Galettes. Chef Katie Cook teaches Essential Knife Skills. Elsy Dinvil of Creole Me Up teaches Haitian Soup Joumou with baguette and Haitian bread made from scratch.
Classes are hands-on and cost $80 to $86. Many use vegan or vegetarian ingredients, and some end with everyone sitting down to eat together. The school holds a 5 rating from 59 Google reviews.
